On My Mind

Blog - What does it mean?

A big thanks to my "Secretary" (lol) for posting on our Blog today while I am out of the office all day digging perc test holes on a 108 acre tract of land.  -Tim

First, let's clear the air! I am not Tim's "Secretary". I like to refer to myself as his Boss - or better known as his wife. I'm not quite sure how I entered into the position of working for (whatever!) Tim, but my life just kind of morphed into a full time business parner. Second, I want to thank Tim for letting me "guest post" today.

For the past 3 years, Tim and I have sat directly across from each other at a large dining room table -our desk. With the many comments we have heard we know this work environment would not be attractive to every married couple, but it works for us. He has his two computers, a large screen Mac and a touchscreen HP on his side of the desk, and I have my laptop on my side. I have strategically placed a large mirror behind him-maybe so that I can see the back of his head, ooorrr possibly so that I can see what is on his computer screen. We both live by the rule "If I'm working, everyone's working".

That brings me to the new CF&E "Blogging" page. When Tim asked me to work on a blog page, I went into research mode. As I was sitting of our screen-in porch this morning having my cup of coffee, I was doing a little research on blogs and blogging (Where did they come up with that name???) Just as I was reading about concepts and topics for blogs, may phone rang. It was my brother Raymond. The conversation went something like this.

Me: "Hello"

Raymond: "Hey.  What are you doing?"

Me: "Funny you shoud ask. I am just sitting here having a cup of coffee, watching the news and reading about blogging."

Raymond: "Oh boy. Before you do that, you need to ...blah, blah, blah."

Now don't get me wrong. He had a lot of good advice. But what shot off in my head was just that. He had some advice. What he didn't realize was that what I was hearing him say is that he wants to post on our blog. Thats right Raymond - one day we want you to be a "guest blogger" on our site! He owns his own business, just purchased a home on the lake and loves to boat and fish- and he is a great story teller. I think that is where the fishing part comes in!

And so there it was. Now we begin the concept and platform for our blog. in my quest for trying to keep a real estate blog interesting, I realized that everyone and everything we do has something to do with real estate. We want to educate you on buying and selling land. Keep you informed on what's happening around York County and North and South Carolina. We will post about traveling and our trips to the mountains, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Ohio and so on. We will ask our neighbor and friend Bobby, who is an awesome southern BBQ'er- to post some recipes and tips on southern grilling. I love gardening and can't wait to post pictures and recipes of "farm to table" dishes and post photos and information of various plants that grow in the South. Tim exercises almost daily, so we will throw in some excercising posts as well. Maybe one day I will be able to post a story about beating finally him in tennis!

It's easy to understand why Tim is so passionate about Real Estate. Whether we are fishing, decorating our homes, preparing a family meal, dining out, exercising, traveling or gardening, it all involves real estate. So as time goes on, our blog page will be full ofposts about Carolina Farms & Estates, living in South Carolina, selling land and homes in York County, South Carolina and ALL aspects of life.

So, where is Tim today? He is out on a 108 acre tract of land helping to dig holes for a perc test. Want to view the propery? Click on the address link below.

Okay. So curiosity got the best of me. I had to find out why they came up with the name "Blog".

Blog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This article is about blogs. For other uses, see Blog (disambiguation).

A blog (a portmanteau of the term web log)[1]
is a discussion or information site published on the World Wide Web consisting of discrete entries ("posts") typically displayed in reverse chronological order so the
most recent post appears first. Until 2009 blogs were usually the work of a
single individual, occasionally of a small group, and often were themed on a
single subject. More recently "multi-author blogs" (MABs) have
developed, with posts written by large numbers of authors and professionally
edited. MABs from newspapers, other media outlets, universities, think tanks,
interest groups and similar institutions account for an increasing proportion
of blog traffic. The rise of Twitter and other "microblogging" systems helps integrate MABs
and single-author blogs into societal newstreams. Blog can also be used
as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

The emergence and growth of blogs in the late
1990s coincided with the advent of web publishing tools that facilitated the posting
of content by non-technical users. (Previously, a knowledge of such
technologies as HTML and FTP
had been required to publish content on the Web.)

Although not a must, most good quality blogs are
interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other
via GUI widgets on the blogs, and it is this
interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.[2]
In that sense, blogging can be seen as a form of social networking. Indeed, bloggers do not only
produce content to post on their blogs but also build social relations with
their readers and other bloggers.[3]

Many blogs provide commentary on a particular
subject; others function as more personal online diaries; yet still others function more as
online brand advertising
of a particular individual or company. In education blogs can be used as
instructional resources. These blogs are referred to as an Edublog. A typical blog combines text, images,
and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media
related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an
interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily
textual, although some focus on art (art blogs), photographs (photoblogs), videos (video blogs or "vlogs"), music (MP3 blogs), and audio (podcasts). Microblogging is another type of blogging,
featuring very short posts.

As of 16 February 2011 (2011 -02-16)[update], there were over 156
million public blogs in existence.[4]
